The Occupational Safety and Health Administration or OSHA has developed professional guidelines for manufacturing, warehouse, and production facilities in Northern California in order to maintain safety in the workplace. 3 Safety Color Codes for Marking Physical Hazards in a Warehouse.

  • Red.
    It is expected that all equipment relating to fire safety be colored red. Danger signs and all lights that indicate danger should also be red. Any signs, lights, or emergency buttons that indicate stop should also be colored red.
  • Yellow.
    Any sign or barricade that indicates caution should be yellow. This color should mark any physical hazards such as stumbling, falling, tripping, or the possibility of being caught between.
  • Red and Yellow.
    A combination of these two colors should be used to mark safety cans or other portable containers of flammable liquids which have a flash point at or below 80 degrees Fahrenheit.  Table containers of flammable liquids, excluding shipping containers, need to be painted red with some additional clearly visible identification such as a yellow band around the can or the name of the contents stenciled or painted on the can in yellow and clearly visible.
